S&B Story

First and foremost, know that the ownership and many of our employees serve our God. That is the foundation upon which we build our business. We strive to build long term relationships with the ministries we are privileged to partner with. We approach each ministry project as if were our church, not just a client. We have found if we put Christ in the center of our relationships, and work together as partners in ministry, we can come up with a solution to any problem.

S&B opened its doors for business as a general contractor in 1972. Established as the construction building arm of a prominent real estate development company, The Skinner & Broadbent Construction Company forged ahead with a niche in the local retail construction projects. Over the years we have applied our unique expertise and extensive construction experience to millions of square feet on new construction and completed renovation work. In 1998 the company name was changed to S&B Construction. Today S&B Construction is known and recognized for its diversity in project experience throughout the Midwest, South and Southwest areas of the country.

We devote considerable time and attention to each new construction project as if it were our only project. Tailoring our services to the individual project means taking into account the industry or corporate culture, and catering to our clients’ emotional needs along with their practical requirements. This experience gained during S&B Construction’s early years enhances our performance, as each project is managed and constructed with an owner’s perspective. This, combined with the many resources that are readily available to us, uniquely qualifies S&B as a valuable construction partner. Our absolute dedication to quality construction and on-time delivery is evident and has been a major factor in our continued success.

In 1996 birthed out of deep desire to help churches build the vision God had given them, we launched our Ministry Facility Division. Since that time we have been blessed to work with over 70 ministries, in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. William Cooper (then President of S&B) realized our years of expertise in the construction industry could be used as a Blessing to churches. Knowing there had to be a better way to help churches through the design/build process in 2006 we were introduced to Building God’s Way and became the exclusive regional builder partner for Building God’s Way. In 2011 William and Reba Cooper after much prayer and seeking wise counsel stepped out in faith became the sole owners of S&B Construction.

Building God’s Way (BGW)

The architectural and construction roots of Building God’s Way (BGW) date back to 1972, when founder Daniel Cook established his first construction company and a few years later became a registered architect. However, the real story of BGW began in 1996, when Dan’s life and career were completely transformed after accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. The Lord blessed Dan with a period of hardships in the years that followed that softened his heart to Christ’s love. In 1995, he took a leave of absence from his architectural practice to devote himself full-time to building Christian Heritage School in Riverdale, Utah. This project proved to be another pivotal point in Dan’s life as he watched God do amazing things through the devotion and faith of a small group of people.

Following the completion of this project, Dan began developing the BGW concept through repeated contact with schools and churches who sought his advice. Dan’s unique approach was revolutionizing the way faith-based facilities were designed and built and ministries across the country wanted to know more about this process.

In 1997, Dan made the life-changing decision to give up his secular architectural work and commit the company solely to designing and building Christian churches and schools. Since that time, BGW has designed more than 800 ministry-based facilities and has served hundreds of others through its broad network of Kingdom building services.

BGW is headquartered in Ogden, Utah. Founding architect Daniel Cook holds an NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) certification and is licensed in 47 states. Architect Don Mahoney joined BGW as a partner in 2003 and brings 35+ years of experience. With an extensive background in performing arts design, he has become a leader in the field of faith-based architecture and has been recognized with a number of national church design awards. Dan Cook and Don Mahoney lead a staff of highly trained architects, MEP engineers, designers, drafters, project managers, as well as personnel in the areas of building supply, business development, accounting, and administration.

Building God’s Way (BGW) has become recognized as the national leader in ministry architecture, with a portfolio that includes more than 800 designs for churches and Christian schools since 1998. Ministry design is constantly changing and requires a unique understanding of the cultural and economic shifts taking place today. With an exclusive focus on the faith-based market, BGW offers a level of expertise that is unrivaled among architects.
